The race is on for Formula Schools 2009! PDF Print E-mail

2009 promises to be another exciting year for our Formula Schools team, as they are given the opportunity to design, build and race their own radio-controlled cars as part of this national competition.  This year, the teams are being sponsored by Aston Martin, who have provided the design data from their racing car, and Aston Martin's own official sponsor, Gulf Oils, who are currently exploring the possibility of having a full-size version of the Aston Martin racing car on display at Silverstone on Race Day.  We are also very grateful to Specsavers who have kindly donated £1500 to purchase parts for the car.

Earlier this year, Year 9 visited NPL Technologies, where the body of the car was produced.  They were able to watch the process, and even had the opportunity to put the carbon fibre into the mould.

At the pre-judging event, the Aston Martin scored 91/120 for engineering - a very respectable score.  Meanwhile, Y8's electric car, which is a 1/10 scale version of the Porsche 917, scored 69% for engineering.  Both teams have high hopes for Race Day on 2 June!
