Physical Education PDF Print E-mail

Physical Education is seen as important because pupils need to be taught how to care for their bodies and live a healthy lifestyle.  They also need the opportunity to face physical challenges as well as the very important skill of working as a member of a team.  Physical Education also helps develop a range of character qualities such as patience, endurance, determination and sportsmanship to name but a few.  When your team is four goals down are you going to give up or try harder?

In Physical Education we aim to:

  • Improve the physical health of the pupils
  • Develop the pupils' understanding of health issues
  • Train pupils to be good sports and great team players

We believe:

  • That our bodies are a gift and that we are stewards
  • That we made to work and live together and Physical education helps develop some of the qualities needed
  • That what one person does matters

Physical activities include:

  • Athletics
  • Rounders
  • Softball
  • Basketball
  • Association football
  • Hockey
  • Badminton
  • Dance
  • Outdoor pursuits

In Key Stage 4, all pupils take PE lessons and some can opt for GCSE PE:

Units in the OCR Physical Education syllabus include:

  • Completing four practical assessments in a range of activities (50%)
  • Completing a short piece of written coursework  (10%)
  • Covering a range of topics that come into the Sports Science area of study (40%)
