For many decades Science has claimed to have the answers to the world's problems.  At The King’s School, we also believe this, because when we study the universe in all its diversity we can see something of the wisdom of God.  When we come to Science from this perspective we believe we will find the answers as it promises in Romans 1:20:
‘For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.’
It is therefore from this perspective that we teach the National Curriculum.   The Author of Creation has largely been forgotten from the government texts so we endeavour to reinstate him especially in the evolution/creation debate.  We believe that Science is important because the big questions of Science are becoming the big questions of society (e.g. Genetics and Climate Change).  We want to prepare our students for the ever increasing rate of progress of our technological society.

In Science, we aim to:

  • Explore the created universe through investigation and a variety of media.
  • Discover how Science works through observation, questioning and hypothesis.

At Key Stage 3:

We follow the Science National Curriculum, which includes the following topics:

  • The environment
  • Nutrition
  • Life cycle
  • Matter
  • Burning
  • Metals
  • Geology
  • Forces
  • Energy resources
  • Light
  • Sound
  • Electricity

At Key Stage 4:

Students are offered either the two GCSEs of core and additional Science or the three separate Sciences of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.  Both options are modular with assessment by a mixture of multiple choice and written papers.
